Digital Radiology Department
Magic Valley Regional installed a Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
in 2001. It is used for CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine images,
and digital x-ray that
previously were printed out on film. Physicians and medical center employees now have
access to these critical diagnostic tools along with inpatient x-rays via computer in their offices and at workstations around the medical center.
A Kodak DirectView CR 900 system installed in 2002 complements the PACS and supports
multiple exam rooms as well as portable x-ray exams. CR systems create images that
are stored digitally and can be easily accessed at workstations throughout the
hospital. In the near future all medical information and images that doctors need to provide patient with care will be available electronically at Magic Valley Regional.
The time and cost savings is tremendous. The caregivers who need patient information
will get it more quickly. The sooner they have that information, the sooner an
accurate diagnosis and treatment options can be identified. That means patients get
better care.
